Carol Munro is an encaustic artist.  Her studio is in the McLean Creek Valley near Okanagan Falls.

Carol’s painting is influenced by early studies in Chinese brush techniques learned 35 years ago under the guidance of Lam Chin Shek and Jack Wise.
Carol has developed her encaustic painting skills under the tutelage of Thea Haubrich, who was trained at the Encaustic Academy, Weilheim, Germany.

Her encaustic paintings have been exhibited in solo and group shows in Penticton, Oliver, Summerland, Kamloops, Kelowna, Vancouver and Sydney, Canberra and Byron Bay in Australia.  “The Road from Here to There” was awarded first place - the Founding Patron’s Gold Award - in “Art Visions 2008”, a Federation of Canadian Artists National Open Show held in Kelowna.  In other recent Federation juried exhibitions, Carol’s painting “Solitude” was awarded “Jurors’ Choice” (2008); in July 2009, “Interruptions” was judged “Best of Show”.

An Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Carol also belongs to the Naramata Arts Studio, of which she was a founding member.

For Carol, it would appear that the natural world surrounding her has been a constant and ever-changing source of inspiration. She was born and raised in the lush temperate rainforests of North Vancouver, briefly moving to Eastern Canada to experience the dramatic weather of Montreal, and then, back again to balmier climes. Many years later she lived in the desert city of Lima, Peru. She returned to Canada in the mid 80's, moving to a hobby farm in the fertile Fraser Valley. Her home is now in the south of the stunning Okanagan Valley of British Columbia.

Carol's skills extend far beyond her brush, however. A CBC radio broadcaster for many years, Carol's voice was often heard over the airwaves as a guest host on 'Disc Drive' and in her special features works for 'Ideas'. She appears annually at the Vancouver International Writers Festival as the enigmatic Spellmistress, where to the delight of her audience, she cajoles and teases her contestant panel of Vancouver media personalities. She is often seen on Penticton stages, as an actor, as Mistress of Ceremonies at local events, and also as a singer with the Naramata Choir. Carol has been an integral member in the initiation of the Naramata Heritage Museum and the Okanagan Falls Heritage Museum. She also makes really good bread.
